I hear what you're saying but it's not what you're saying

Kris Aquino says she's leaving Pilipinas Win na Win to "make room" for the new male hosts. She in fact, stated on her twitter account "May I just clarify —I didn't resign or quit. I was asked to leave Win to make room for new male hosts. I'm honest and humble enough to not lie about the situation."

Uh-huh.

Sure...

But see, this is my analysis of the statement, if I may be indulged: May I just clarify - This means a lot of people might misconstrue her leaving the show so she's covering all bases. I didn't resign or quit. I was asked to leave - Which means that she's getting all worked up about being asked to leave. It wasn't her own volition. The fans can clamor for her return with management. Imagine, Kris Aquino being asked to leave?! What has the world come down to? *gasp* to make room for new male hosts - I'm being replaced by 4 male hosts? Oh well, at least I'm equivalent to 4 people. I'm honest and humble enough to not lie about the situation. - Honest, yes. Humble? That's highly debatable. Granted, this is a very nice tactical and strategic move. Deflect the situation, be vulnerable but retain (false) humility so as to get the sympathy of the masses. Very good move but it won't work on smart people though...

Now, my own opinion is this: Kris can't handle being a host in a show with so many co-hosts. She doesn't know how to play with a team because she's used to being solo (read: narcissistic and egotistical).Frankly, the less I hear her whiny voice on TV, the better. She's how old? And yet she still speaks with vocal affectations resembling that of a teenage kolehiyala. Yeah...

Breakfast, anyone?

I'm not a fashion icon and I never claim to be one. I have made some fashion faux pas in my life and I have learned from them. But, seriously, WTF is this??

Did she wake up in the morning thinking "How can I screw up wardrobe today?' Who the hell is her stylist? This isn't art, it can't even be seen or categorized as abstract. Its just a train wreck! Rhianna, please for the love of everything that's house of Dereon, stop doing this to yourself.

Another train wreck is Mariel Rodriguez. Come on woman, you lied to the public - a lot! And you came up with terrible quasi plausible explanations and you're now playing the victim card? Let's see now...I mean, we could be wrong but just indulge me in looking at this from my perspective, even if my perspective doesn't mean diddly shit amongst you high profile "acteurs":

1.There was LYING! He denied you were married. You proclaimed that you were but then your supposed husband came out and said that it wasn't a legal marriage and then you come out again saying it was legal and has been legal for months now. Do you seriously expect us to say "Oooh...that's okay sweetie....how nice for you! Congratulations!" NO!! We're all going WTF?! What's going on? Is this...are they? Oh you know what...who the F cares?

2. You got married to a dude that you've known for only 4 months. Okay...I get that. Sometimes, it's really a whirlwind thing and love is love when you see it and all. I'll give you that. But have you ever considered looking at the guy's past and history? He's proposed to every leading lady he's had in his movies. While married to another. Doesn't that at the least ring your teeny warning bells?

3. You've excluded your family and friends in your "wedding". Boy....that just shows how much he values your family and friends. He values them well enough to EXCLUDE THEM FROM YOUR WEDDING. Yeah...that will definitely make your family love him and not resent him. Not even your parents? Not your grandparents who have been taking care of you and guiding you and supporting you waaaay before this dude comes knockin on your honkers...I mean, doorstep? That's just wrong and you know that.

4. Have you sat down and thought about how religion will play a part in your relationship? You also have children to look after now. Yes...being a stepmom means you have responsibilities with the children. You marry a dude, you marry his kids too. It's a package deal. You can't even make sound decisions for yourself, how can you make sound decisions for the kids? And his religion will allow him to marry 3 other women. Are you cool with that? I mean, you say that you're cool with it now but when you cross that bridge, believe me, you won't be. You already exhibited your self-centered-ness and selfishness by excluding your family and friends in your wedding, you think you can exhibit some form of generosity with your husband? Yeah...didn't think that one through, did you?

5. You're Catholic or Christian. He's Muslim. It takes years of study and a whole lot of commitment to fully understand and accept Islam. The Koran may have similar stories as to the Bible but trust me, it's a different slice of the apple pie. Didn't you think about that? I bet, dollars to donuts, that you'll be all enthusiastic for about a couple of months, 6 tops, and then you'd be asking questions about existentialism and the role of Christ in your conflicted religious life.

So please, stop shedding your "I'm the victim" tears on TV and complain about why people won't believe you.

Sheesh...

ARK Warriors

Posted by The Red Devil on Friday, September 24, 2010 in , ,
In my quest to change the world one small act at a time, I remembered some people who have done beautiful random acts of kindness that impressed me. They probably don't remember it, but I just thought I'd give them some sort of recognition for the nice things they've done for strangers.

One of my favorite stories is about Dominic Ochoa. When we were working together for Labs ko si Babe, i hitched a ride with him from Manila to Pila, Laguna, where we were taping. On the way, he saw an old woman on the side of the street with loads of bags and bayongs. He stopped and asked the old woman where she was going and picked her up - bags and all and drove her home to Pila, where the old woman lived. He sincerely conversed with the old woman as well and helped her out of the car and carried the bags into her house. I think most of the people in the house were too shocked to even acknowledge that it was Dominic Ochoa bringing their lola home and carrying her bayongs full of veggies and fish. I asked him whatever possessed him to do that and he just shrugged and said "It was the right thing to do"

Jodi Santamaria Lacson is another sweet and generous soul. I'm sure she doesn't want anything she has done publicized but let me tell you right now that this woman has a big golden heart when it comes to helping people out. She just gives without any reservations and she goes out of her way to make sure she helps out. She's organized virtual rallies and fund-raising activities for several people already and have helped a lot of people. She's been doing that since our Tabing Ilog days so before you think that this is a political thing, let me say right now that it isn't.

There are a lot of ARK (Act of Random Kindness) Warriors out there and they're trying to make a positive change in the world by doing these ARKs for one person at a time.

What have you done today?

Willie Revillame "quits"

Posted by The Red Devil on Monday, August 09, 2010 in , ,
PEP.ph: The Number One Site for Philippine Showbiz | News | Willie Revillame: "Ako po ay nagpapaalam na sa ABS-CBN. Tinatapos ko na po ang kontrata ko sa ABS-CBN."

Oh for the love of everything's that sane and holy! Why won't you just give it up?!

I have never before seen or observed such a self-serving, egotistical, narcissistic douchebag! have you really no shame? Perhaps you're that deluded in thinking that all your showboating and fluffing of your own feathers is actually charity. You didn't give away those prizes and those money - the sponsors did. You didn't make these people "happy" - you made them greedy non self-respecting people who think that winning in a game show is more honorable than going out and working for themselves. You're ready to exploit people's misfortune to make them dance like a puppet and make other people believe that you are doing all these things for them just because you want them to be happy but not without making you look like a freaking messiah! (And yes, I realize that that is a very long winded sentence but I'm pissed off so I'm entitled!)

You think people love you? Hell no! 50 percent of them want your money, a quarter of them like to think that they can be famous by association and the last quarter actually pity you! They're the ones giving you charity and not the other way around! No one likes you because you are a self-absorbed, ego-maniacal, sexually exploitative, misogynistic douche! (Not to mention, a wife beater!)

Lay off it. Be thankful that they still offered you a weekly show - or a Studio 23 show for that matter. It's still a show and it's still work. But no...you had to be greedy and had to be all hoity-toity and controlling again. You had to think you were king of the world again. Didn't you learn form your past mistakes?

Screw this crap. I'm sticking to watching British game shows instead. At least they admit that they're annoying.

Replaced annoyance

So, Wowowee is gone. I almost breathed a sigh of relief but then held it again because the show's going to be replaced by a game show hosted by Kris Aquino. I immediately did a resounding facepalm. What we need is a noontime show that does not exploit the sad state of affairs the masses have. What we need is a show that is informative, helpful and is hosted by someone that does not have a voice affectation ( Di ba Bwoy?)

*Sigh* I guess it's a universal constant...

She's all grown up and is growing up rather well. I do hope she doesn't pull a Lohan because it would be such a waste.

Thank goodness that her mother isn't such a camwhore like the "white Oprah".

Child actors and actresses here in the Philippines share a similar fate. Most of them are really successful and some just crash and burn. (A certain Mulach comes to mind)

Grace under pressure

Posted by The Red Devil on Monday, July 12, 2010 in ,

In this industry (Showbusiness), there aren't a lot of gems. You can find a handful of them but most of the time, they get corrupted by fame and power and screen time. I've met a lot of people whom I thought were different and were real gems but alas, I've been disappointed by a lot of them.

Recently, I've met such a wonderful and rare find in Isabelle Abierra. If y'all are wondering who she is, she's the anti-heroine in our soap opera "Rosalka". She plays Veronica, the evil scheming girl out to destroy the relationship of our leading lady and her paramour. On screen, she's the type of girl you'd want to bash her face in with a brick - she's that effective. Off screen however, I just took a liking to her and I want to keep her in my pocket. LOL!

She's got the looks. Even at 3 in the morning, she still manages to look like Angelina Jolie. (A spitting image, I swear). How can you be grumpy at 3 in the morning when you're looking at a face like that who manages to give you a sincere smile and a heartfelt belly laugh? But in an industry that is both patronizing and cruel to the shallow aesthetics of a person, Isabelle is more than than.

The first thing that got me was when she nonchalantly plopped herself on the floor, surrounded by everyone's bags and just napped there. Other actors would demand a sizable space for their chair, bags, cooler and other bric-bracs. She just looked at the place, smiled and unceremoniously plopped herself on the floor without even checking for dirt or water droplets. It wasn't for show, trust me, because she did it over and over again until I told her to take my seat, which she adamantly refused.

Plus the way she treats every single person on the show is equal and gracious. From the Executive producer, to our fellow actors to the guy making coffee for us. She's polite, well-mannered and very gracious. She treats Lola Carmen (The Mila Del Sol) just like how she'd treat her own grandmother.

I've been jaded and burned by a lot of people in this industry so I'm pretty wary now of the people I meet. With Isabelle however, you just can't help but fall in love with her. (Even though I hate her character, Veronica. LOL!)

I see great things for her not just because she's got the looks - it's because she's got heart.

Love you Sweet Pea.

Ded na si Lolo

Posted by The Red Devil on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in , ,

On my Filipino movie marathon, I've chosen "Ded na si Lolo" (Grampa is dead) for my comedy fill. It's a digital movie written and directed by Soxie Topacio - the legendary theater, TV and film icon.

Initially, I found it to have had a lackluster opening. It was pretty boring and precipitously loud. then again, I had to take into consideration that the entire setting and the families were living in Gagalangin, Tondo. Naturally, noise would be synonymous to the residents and the area.

The plot revolves around the death of the family's patriarch. On his death, the family had to come together and unearth family secrets and grievances - each secret, though ugly, had to brought out and be given a resolution and closure to.

The movie also acts like a foreigner's primer on Filipino superstition. Though it seems hilarious (especially when you're watching it from the sidelines), these traditions and beliefs are deeply rooted and are hard to get rid of. As Dick Israel's character said "Wala naman masama kung sumunod" (No harm in doing it)

Manilyn Reynes shows her effectivity as an actress with the way she has brought to life her character, Charing - a mother of two trying to make ends meet for her family while trying to instill correct values to her children. I found her daughter to be a little off in her acting as a "sosyalera" and instead it came out like she was trying to be gay.

Elizabeth Oropesa shows fine acting skills as the sister that everybody loves to hate (You'll see the twist sometime at the end of the movie). All in all, the acting was impeccable.

The movie is not just a comedy. It's full of layers upon layers of Filipino complexity - family, obligation, secrets and truths. But what got to me was the ending of the film. Through a child's eyes, death can be the most horrific and traumatic thing or it could just be a matter of fact. Either way, their lives are going to be changed forever.

Ded na si Lolo stars Roderick Paulate, Manilyn Reynes, Elizabeth Oropesa, Dick Israel and Gina Alajar.

When you're starting to show your age...

Posted by The Red Devil on Monday, June 21, 2010 in ,
I don't know about you guys but I feel like this is some rip off of Ugly Betty/The Hills/Jersey Shore/some other stupid fashion soap in the US. Greta looks like she's channeling Vanessa Williams' character and doing a poor imitation of it. (Parang LV kinompare sa Parisian) Her botox job is making it difficult for her to produce subtle facial expressions that could've made a difference.

Maybe that's how the character should be, maybe I'm judging too early in the game. Maybe that's the entire point anyway - to hate her character.

Anyway, I don't know what was up with this interview but is it just me who's noticing how the bags in her eyes are just showing her age and fatigue?

*shrug* Oh well.

I'm dead serious

Posted by The Red Devil on Monday, June 21, 2010 in , ,
I'm starting to see what most young pinoys think of the Philippine cinema. I made a post on my facebook account about how I was able to buy two classic Vilma Santos films and someone laughed about it.

Granted there are some films that are just pure crap but there are a lot of classic Filipino films that should be a must for every Filipino to watch. This blog/guy made a comprehensive list of 100 best Filipino Films and I think he was spot on. After reading his post, I made a decision to start collecting DVDs of these films to add to my film collection.

These are the films I grew up on - films whose stories were thought of and not just haphazardly put together for the latest network love team. They were experimental and thought provoking and the actors in them were just brilliant. the directors are calculating, creative and yet, precise. This is Philippine cinema at its best. We're talking about Mario O'Hara, Danny Zialcita, Lino Broka, Ishmael Bernal and Nick Deocampo.

Yesterday I was able to buy two DVDs (technically, three but the other one was for Del - which I'm so pleased he liked). I got two Vilma Santos starrers: Imortal (with Christopher De Leon and Sinasamba Kita with Lorna Tolentino). I was very pleased. I still want to get more and I've been searching online where I can buy some. I'm hoping I can pass these films on to my kids and let them appreciate Filipino cinema.

I think we should start appreciating what we've got and stop copying other people's work. We have a lot of talent and a lot of ideas that we're just not paying attention to because maybe they just don't bring in the cash. (Ay, it's not mainstream/hindi maiintindihan ng masa yan/Masyadong experimental)

So, if any of you can kindly point me at the right direction where I can get these movies, I'd very much appreciate it.

Now lang?

Erap has decided to quit showbiz and politics. He says that he has already played too many roles and that he wants to live the quiet life. "Lahat na halos ay ibinigay sa akin. Siguro ako ay isa sa pinakamasuwerteng nilalang na ako'y nabigyan ng pagkakataon maging superstar, maging mayor, maging senator, maging vice-president, president, at prisoner pa. Palagay ko marami nang binigay sa aking pagkakataon ang Panginoon at ang ating mga kababayan," Estrada told ABS-CBN's Europe News Bureau chief Danny Buenafe. (Everything has been given to me, from being a superstar, a mayor, a senator, a vice president, president and even a prisoner. I think I've been given so many opportunities by God and the people)

Well good on you! But by George, please don't write that memoir anymore. First off, if you really want to, make sure you have a competent editor. Better yet, just hire someone to write to for you, sort of like a "as told to".

I think you're finally doing the right thing. Retire from the public life altogether. It's the best thing you've ever thought of doing. Now, if you can only follow through then we'll all be happy.

The recent elections in the Philippines really doesn't bother me that much. Why? For one, I didn't vote. I don't care what they say, I have always believed that they've already chosen who would win. I don't agree with their choice, not because he's the brother of Kris Aquino, whom I cannot stand but because I truly believe he's not what this country needs. Case in point - numerous rumors are going on about how a certain TV personality would be the next tourism secretary. Really? You want him to be the tourism secretary? Bakeet?

If that rumor comes to fruition, dios mio, I want the earth to open up and eat me... and it's possible. Just read about sinkholes.

Because you're such an expert on relationships...

Posted by The Red Devil on Sunday, June 28, 2009 in ,
PEP.ph: The Number One Site for Philippine Showbiz | News | Kristine Hermosa apologizes to Diether Ocampo for her unsolicited advice

Anything ex related is always messy and about 15 kinds of awkward. It's weird and it won't be as comfortable as you'd wish it could be. It will, but there are certain lines you don't cross at certain points of time.

For example, you don't joke around with your recent ex as if nothing has changed. Don't try to make it all cool and okay when it's really awkward. Relish in the awkwardness. You won't get rid of that awkwardness easily. Give it 2 years at the minimum. Two: you can't give your ex any relationship advice especially if it's unsolicited. That's just plain ass dumb. Oh wait...that's exactly what she did! Why am I not surprised?

I'm not judging you, sweetheart (well, not much at least) because the Powers that Be know that I'm a lost cause when it comes to relationships, but I do follow the protocol and I do try, as much as possible, to not make a jackass out of myself and make it look like I'm hungry and desperate for publicity or attention.

So, you apologized...big whoop! You really had to apologize publicly? Couldn't you have done it in private where it could've felt more sincere and honest?

Meeehh...what do I care? I'm not your ex nor his. You did call me a maid once though - betcha don't remember that.

0

Are you always this articulate?

Posted by The Red Devil on Saturday, June 27, 2009 in , , ,

First question I have is: Why do men always think that shots like these are sexy? It's so unnatural! I mean, we can only sustain bending over that way for so long, on a bar stool, no less. Holding a gun that way is a sure fire hit on your forehead, dumbass. And what? You forgot to put on your real clothes? Were you really in that much of a situation that you remembered to put on your belt but not your pants?

But that's not the real deal here. The real issue is the cat fight/word war between RR Enriquez and Christine Reyes. Hey, I'm a big fan of cat fights - there's something seriously sexy about two bitches getting it on. It's even sexier when the word war is all sarcastic and classy. (Think Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn or Monica Belucci vs. Barbra Streisand) Well, don't expect that kind of a classy verbal tirade from these two. (Read all about it here)

Wow... this actually makes me feel good. Not in the "wow, there's chaos in the world and it's getting closer and closer to Armageddon" kind of good feeling (although I'm not averse to that idea). This makes me feel good because I know 30 years from now, when they've developed wrinkles and succumbed to the power of gravity, I'm still considered articulate, smart and sexy. You can only have so much plastic surgery.

Here's a thought: Instead of bitching and arguing about who ruined what with whom, why don't you read books (not magazines, they don't count as credible reading material - they're supplementary and entertaining), why don't you explore poetry or philosophy or art! Maybe next time you can have a verbal tirade that's similar to this:

RR: I've heard from a great source that you're quite incensed with me. It bothers me to think that you have taken offense to something you're positively an expert at. Hypocrisy has been elevated into an art form, thanks to you.

Christine: Incensed would not be the word I'd use. Infuriated is more apropos. I do appreciate your admittance that I've developed something you've been wanting to succeed in for the longest time. Perhaps that's the reason why you're such a publicity hungry lowly courtesan. Inasmuch as I enjoy responding to your sad attempts at riling me up, my assistant needs to text other more important people. Oh, and good luck on that skin condition of yours. Moisturizer usually does the trick, and so does soap.

Now, that is a word war worth reading. Their word war? It's like a Rubik's cube. It's entertaining for the first 4 minutes then you just want to peel off the stickers to make all the sides have monochrome synchronicity.

0

That's...okay, I have absolutely no adjective for that.

That's Janna, my co-actor in the soap "Only You" (Weekdays at 8PM, right before "Tayong Dalawa" on ABSCBN) Yes, ladies and gents, I'm back in the acting circuit and I've just shot my first day's worth of scenes yesterday.

Honestly, I was nervous, excited and anxious. I've not done this in a long time and I was kind of scared to do so. What if they don't like me anymore? What if I can't act anymore? What if I mess up? What if I end up flat on my face. A lot of "what if" scenes were playing in my head like a fast forward scan on a DVD player.

Then, it was just like riding a bike. Issues and home front related stress notwithstanding, I did have fun yesterday. It was great! Like a breath of fresh air, like something in my blood stirred. Of course there were times when the director had to call my attention to get back on track with the character or to make modifications, but it's something that's normal. I've just met the character and I'm still groping to understand who she is. China - the character's name, is one fun personality. I've got to make sure I've got her down pat, for the next filming day.

Now, I was sharing the AC tent with the lead actors of the show (Angel Locsin and Sam Milby). A lot of people would be starstruck. I was, honestly, for a little bit. They're actually pretty decent and nice people. I don't want to pass any kind of judgment here so early on in the game but in my initial assessment, they're pretty nice and cool people.

You'd think I'd have my photo taken with them (knowing that I'm a closet fangirl at heart) but nooo...I, instead, chose to have my photo taken with Buttcheeks - Angel's dog.

He's a sweetheart! A cute fluffy dog with the personality of a diva cat! How amusing is that?

Soon, I'll have updates and photos worth looking at. For now, I'm enjoying the simple pleasures and joy of having a well meant kiss from a cute guy - Buttcheeks.

Alec Baldwin made a haha on the Letterman show. Something about his lonely life and how he's desperate enough to get a Filipina Mail Order Bride instead of dating women in Hollywood.

Senator Bong Revilla is now jumping on to the publicity bandwagon by declaring war against the Baldwins (or at least the Baldwins that care enough to retaliate.) Which, in my humble opinion, would not look good Baldwin wise, as there are more Revillas than there are Baldwins in the world. Ang tawag dyan eh Kuyug.

Here are my 2 cents on the matter: Sure, we got a law that states ordering Filipinas as brides constitutes to the very least, human trafficking and at the most, prostitution. It's banned, it's illegal and it's wrong - all points I passionately agree with. However, technology has made it possible for these Filipinas to cut the middle man out of the deal and just do it for themselves.

Recently, I've met an American (name withheld to protect his identity) who married a Filipina. I asked how he met her and he told me, he found her on the internet, as recommended by another friend of his who's married to a Filipina as well. I raised my eyebrow in disapproval and said "You know, that's like the modern version of a Mail Order Bride."

If you're going to point a finger out, make sure you've got all your bases covered. Sure, it's demeaning! It's insensitive! It's a joke delivered in bad taste! It's also TRUE!

Sheesh... anything for publicity nowadays. It's sad.

I think she is a beauty. She's poised and classy, which cannot be said about other "real" women out there. I love her. She's honest about it and she's so gracious.

I hate how Butch Francisco and Lolit Solis murdered this interview. Lolit, I understand since she's addled in the cranium to begin with and obviously lacking in class, poise, basic manners and common courtesy. But Butch Francisco? Dude, you're claiming to be a journalist and you do this? Such a shame. Ricky Lo, isa ka pa. Para kang tuod dyan.

She's not some two bit parlor fag. Sheesh... some people just have no brains.

Butch Francisco, ano ba???? Ang kulet mo eh! Tigilan mo na ang pangalan! Kung inggit ka, magpa retoke ka! 'Berna you! Seriously, your nervous laughter is getting to be creepy. You are NOT a journalist and you are NEVER going to be a host.

I love it...BB saying "Let Rustom be at peace..."

BB, you go girl. You are loved. We love you.

Hilarious! Love Jensen and Chelsea!
