Where has it gone?

Lately I've been noticing how badly Filipinos have evolved - if you can call it that. It's such a sad state of affairs when nobody remembers the values we were taught and trained for as children. Now, it's all about the big bucks and how to get it fast. How did we get this way?

What happened to the kindness of strangers? Do we really not care anymore? In buses, I can see old or pregnant women standing up for a long period of time while men half their age and twice their size are sitting and are completely pretending that they haven't seen anything or anyone. And for goodness' sake! The first row of seats at the front of the bus is for old people, handicapped, pregnant or those with small children! It's not a race, for the love of Christ! We will get to the destination all at the same time because we're all in the same freaking bus!!

About two weeks ago, I tried helping this old woman out of the trike. She had loads of stuff that she was lugging around and she had difficulty in getting off the vehicle. As I tried to help her, she said that she didn't have any money to give me and that I should just leave her alone. I spent a considerable amount of time convincing her that I just wanted to help and didn't want any of her money. How terrible is that?? People now think that help comes with a price tag!

Is this the kind of world we want our children to grow up into? Is this the kind of life we want them to live? We have to do something. We have to start living our lives the way proper Filipinos do - with pakikisama, pakikipagtulungan, bayanihan, pagmamahal sa bayan and pagmamahal sa kapwa.

Start with your self! Start with your kids! Start now!
