A different angle

Life is about perspectives. You'll never really know how bad or how good you've really got it going until you have a taste of what's on the other side. Sometimes the universe will give you exactly that experience (A day of babysitting monster babies when you've been harping about how much you hate kids and then realizing that you now have great respect to mothers who try to do it all) and sometimes, the universe, just because she has a sick sense of humor, will give you that experience permanently. (Then you realize, you're pregnant.)

There are times, however, that the universe will let you discover it on your own; giving you the gift of epiphany. When that happens, embrace it and keep it.

This is what I've learned so far - with a lot of help from friends and loved ones - Life is about perspectives. If you think you've got it bad, take a long hard look at those around you so you can see that you're actually not that pathetic.

If you've been looking down for too long, try to look up and you might be surprised at what you see: There's actually a bright blue sky with clouds and a sun waiting for you to appreciate.

Here's my perspective: I've got everything I could ever want and need. I can have more, sure but I'm happy where I am. It's not perfect and I don't want it to be perfect, but I want this.

(Photos taken by yours truly - it's the lighting fixture of a McDonald's branch here in Las Pinas. I found it to be pretty amazing how a fast food joint can have a luxurious lighting fixture.)

I have never been good at poetry. When I was playing and singing in bands, I wrote some lyrics, but nothing that I thought was great.

I cant stop thinking about you. When I cant talk to you, I can do nothing but think about you. I sat down to have a smoke and write up some work I needed to do, but all I could think about was you.

So I wrote this:

"Ian" by Dave
You light up my life
brightening the darkest of days
the chance we met up
as if angels paved the way

To the love of my life
whom I love plain & true
for you and your family
anything would I do

Like a friend I've never known
like a dream coming true
put plain and simply
I LOVE YOU

Happy valentines day sweetheart.
