New Show - Flash Forward

***
Several people, Brew included, have been raving about this show. "You've got to watch this show. One, it's got one of the Fiennes brothers in it so that'll tickle your sex nub and two, it's got an awesome story!"
Let it be known that I do think with my upstairs brain most of the time. My uterus and ovaries only get a small part of the day.
So, I gave it a try and watched the first episode. Initially, I was very skeptical. It reminded me of this Christian book series I've read - Left Behind. I was already thinking that this was going to be a Christian show about rapture and about how we should atone for all our sins already. Apocalyptic shows are very fashionable now, so excuse me for thinking they were jumping on the bandwagon.
However, I was proven wrong.
The series starts off with a question: "What if you were given an opportunity to see your future? What would you do with that knowledge?" We always say that if we were given a chance to know then what we know now, we would be making different choices. But what if you actually were given a chance to see the future - to know for sure what you'd be doing, would you want that future to change? What if you couldn't stop the future? What if everything were truly predetermined?
For 137 seconds, the whole world had a black out, not the power grid kind but the loss of consciousness variety. Everyone dropped like flies and for 2 minutes and 17 seconds on October 6. Everyone then saw a glimpse of their future, 6 months ahead. Because of this about 2 billion people died all over the world. (What did you expect after blacking out while driving a car or a plane?) The FBI office in Los Angeles, California then decided to put up a special task force investigating the reasons for the black out and was called the Mosaic.
Flash Forward shows the intricacies of living for the present while preparing for the future. And because of this paranormal event, everyone in the world suddenly became prophets in their own right. It also shows how truly connected we are with each other - time zones and miles in between be damned.
The series was based on a Sci-fi novel by Robert J Sawyer with the same title. Flash Forward is seen every Thursdays on ABC 8/7c. Visit their official website here.
