Alec Baldwin made a haha on the Letterman show. Something about his lonely life and how he's desperate enough to get a Filipina Mail Order Bride instead of dating women in Hollywood.
Senator Bong Revilla is now jumping on to the publicity bandwagon by declaring war against the Baldwins (or at least the Baldwins that care enough to retaliate.) Which, in my humble opinion, would not look good Baldwin wise, as there are more Revillas than there are Baldwins in the world. Ang tawag dyan eh Kuyug.
Here are my 2 cents on the matter: Sure, we got a law that states ordering Filipinas as brides constitutes to the very least, human trafficking and at the most, prostitution. It's banned, it's illegal and it's wrong - all points I passionately agree with. However, technology has made it possible for these Filipinas to cut the middle man out of the deal and just do it for themselves.
Recently, I've met an American (name withheld to protect his identity) who married a Filipina. I asked how he met her and he told me, he found her on the internet, as recommended by another friend of his who's married to a Filipina as well. I raised my eyebrow in disapproval and said "You know, that's like the modern version of a Mail Order Bride."
If you're going to point a finger out, make sure you've got all your bases covered. Sure, it's demeaning! It's insensitive! It's a joke delivered in bad taste! It's also TRUE!
Sheesh... anything for publicity nowadays. It's sad.
