The word "Douchebag" is mentioned countless times here, much to my amusement.
I'm not well educated with American Pop Culture but the other reviews I've read have put these three old actors onto a pedestal. I've seen a couple of them in some shows but I don't think I'll ever remember them. I guess they're equivalent to our Ray Ventura, Pen Medina and the like.
Dean seems to be looking better, like he's slowly dealing with the whole hell bit now that he's opened up to Sam. That's Dean anyway, slow to reveal himself even to those whom he trusts implicitly. This whole confession is being dragged out not because it's part of the storyline (well, maybe it is) but I think it's because it's truly Dean's character.
Sam's truly all grown up. He's become a little bit like John now, although I don't think he'll ever admit to that. I still don't trust Ruby. There's something about her subdued pleasure when Sam exorcises demons that has my skin itching. She's up to nothing good. I have not been wrong about the heebeejeebees yet. It scares me that Ruby's using Sam's fraternal concern and natural protectiveness over Dean as the bait.
I liked the tiny quirks each actor had in this episode. Dean's annoyance with the magicians must have been summed up (at least for me) when they were interviewing Vance's assistant. His face was priceless when she was pulling the hankies from the bag, add a rabbit to that mix and I got lost in laughter. I like the look Sam had when they were watching Jay do the executioner. I think it was a mixture of awe and disbelief. Hey, he did want to be a magician. Jay had his eyes do all the talking. You could see the resignation, the desperation and then the little glint of hope as he thought there is a possibility he could stage a comeback.
It's a nice episode, a breather of sorts before we get back to the real mythos of the storyline. I can't wait for next episode though. Seeing Dean in shorts is like having my birthday come all at once.
