Growing up and growing old

Posted by The Red Devil on Sunday, November 23, 2008 in ,
My cousin got married yesterday to his long time college sweetheart. They've been together for 7 years before they decided to tie the knot. Well, a baby is on the way that's why they've decided to put their plans on the fast track. The baby in itself is a miracle because my new cousin in law has some problems with her reproductive bits.

Anyhoo, I wasn't able to take any pictures because I was too busy making sure my boys weren't destroying the house of god too much to get them excommunicated. Children and spaces where there are too many rules aren't really my idea of a good time, however, you should have seen how cute they were.

My entire family was there, watching as the baby we once cared for is now a man and is married. It was emotional. The fact that this was a very important celebration in our family's life (he was the first to get married in church. As you know, I haven't checked if I want "religion" to bless my marriage. As far as I'm concerned, my marriage is fine without any dude in a white dress waving his hands on me and making it "sacred"...but I digress) His dad would've been so proud to be there. (My uncle, his father, died 14 years ago) Gah... I was so choked up all the time it was hard to keep a straight face.

I read somewhere that growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. Sounds like a bumper sticker campaign. The truth is, I was so proud of my cousin yesterday. I was so proud he grew up into a man that is kind, sweet, reponsible and insanely funny. I'm proud of my family - we all raised each other into the best people we could be.

I'm happy my kids will get to see all of this and be part of it.
