In denial

Posted by The Red Devil on Thursday, September 13, 2007 in , ,
I've always denied my Chinese heritage - well, I really don't have to deny it since I don't look anything like Chinese, not even dimsum. However, my point is, I hate to have to discuss and break the myths and stereotypes.

Not all Chinese are rich. Some have businesses, some are middle class and still there are some who are below the poverty line. I had some Chinese friends back when I was a kid who barely scraped by with what they had.

Not every Chinese person believes in feng shui. Some do but there are others who are devout Catholics and who believe in god's plan rather than some arrangement in furniture.

The truth is, I hate people knowing my Chinese side because a lot of Chinese, especially those who are rich (take note, not all. but most), have attitudes that read like the who's who of evil and destruction.

Money won't buy you respect. Respect has to be earned. You can't force your way into something just because you can wave a wad of bills. You need to be invited in. Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean you already belong to the small elite group in society. Even society has rules.

Sabi nga ng kaibigan ko, kung ganyan ang nagiging ugali ng mga nagiging mayaman, di bale na lang. Masaya na akong maging mahirap.

Kamaganak niyo ba si Vangie Labalan?
