Changing the world...

Watched Evan Almighty last night with hubby and some friends. First, lemme tell you that we were the only ones laughing and I was laughing the hardest. I don't know if I should be embarrassed for myself or for those who don't and can't get sarcasm. Wanda Sykes is super hilarious!! I really love that woman.

However, it wasn't the comedy that got to me. I've always professed that I'm agnostic, but I'm not an idiot. I've studied the bible, made some theories about it, defined and related stories to my and other people's lives. What got me was when "God" and the wife had a conversation about prayers and answers to prayers. When we pray for patience, we don't get patience, we get an opportunity to be patient. When we pray to have a closer family, we are given opportunities to be close. I thought that was brilliant.

Plus, the entire movie's plot of "1 act of random kindness" was as close to an epiphany as possible.

I was telling an acquaintance, that these days, you rarely see men offering their seats to women. Old and pregnant women are forced to stand up and weather the twists, bumps and turns of public transport while able young men sit and sleep in their seats. It's very annoying. I have found myself giving up my seat for pregnant or older women. When I do that, everyone looks at me like I'm a fucking weirdo. I don't care. If you men won't do it, I will.

I want a better world for my kids to grow up in. I want them to see that people aren't as bad as they seem. Kill the pragmatist in me, but I honestly want my country and my countrymen to live better lives, to be better people.

We see taxi drivers and tricycle drivers return bags of indecent amounts and jewels. We see young children still saying "po" and "opo". We hear about grade school students cleaning the beach and the Manila Bay. That small act of giving up your seat or helping an older woman to walk can make a difference.

I want these political parties and leaders to just stop talking and arguing. What will the sharing of spit do? Instead of wasting our money discussing things that cannot be changed, why not share that money with students in the provinces, so they may have a better roof over their heads? Fix the drainage systems! Kill corruption by not being corrupt! DO YOUR JOB! We do not need legislation, yet. We need action.

There's still hope out there. I can feel it.
