Heroes

I spent the entire day watching 12 episodes of Heroes. It's a new NBC show about the human genome project. I'm hooked. My husband is hooked. My mother is hooked. You HAVE to watch this show. It's a story about several people discovering their special abilities. It's like X-men meets Lost meets My Name is Earl. I love it! Get a copy or watch it over at RPN 9 every Sunday. Why didn't star world get this, I don't know but I’m sure they are kicking themselves to the ground.

Now call me weird but this is exactly how it sounds like. Watching this show brought about memories about my childhood. When I was 8 years old, my aunt from the States brought with her a brand new Lego set. Being a girl, it was traditionally looked upon as inappropriate, especially at that time to receive such gift. However, my parents saw it as an opportunity for me to learn more about construction/architecture/engineering and as another method to imprint great and irrational fear - my mother and father respectively.

My father made sure to remind me that if I lose one piece, just one piece, there would be hell to pay. I completely took that lightly - too lightly. I went to the neighbor's which was my cousin's house and started playing with the set. I never noticed that the toddler at that time, a giant now, took some pieces without my knowing. When I got home and started putting things in order, I noticed that I was missing about 8 pieces. (I'm OC, ever since I was a kid) I panicked and cried and begged my mother not to tell my dad. I fell asleep crying and worrying.

Then, the weirdest dream happened. I saw the same afternoon but this time as an observer. I saw the baby cousin take the pieces, stash them in a small blue plastic bag and take them to the home office. He then pulls out the third drawer and buries the "treasure" under a thick stack of folders. Once I woke up, I rushed over to my cousin's and looked where I dreamt it would be. True enough, under folders of bills and personal records, inside a small blue plastic bag, lay my 8 precious Lego pieces.

Most of the time I'm right on the money about something or someone. It's like a familiar feeling - like deja vu but more potent. I sometimes surprise myself at my luck; just when the chips are down and you know they have a full house on their deck, you pull a card that makes your hand a royal flush. It's about then that I realize who my real friends are. I don't have much, trust me. I don't have a lot of friends I can trust because I get that sense of foreboding doom if you're not true.

My friends are those beautiful 8 pieces of Lego in a small blue plastic bag that I found when I most need them.
