Weeh...

Last night, hubby and I watched Ghost Rider. I'm really not into such movies, but hey, hubby wants to watch so we did. Don't get me wrong, he didn't have to force me, I wanted to see it too - not a fan but I'd like to see it.

It was the last full show so we had to stand up for the National Anthem. It's funny because nowadays, patriotism can only be defined in the movie houses, where Filipinos actually stand up to give respect to "Lupang Hinirang". (Yes, the title of our National Anthem is Lupang Hinirang not Bayang Magiliw.) I was anticipating the old National Anthem video where there was a disturbing moment where a very grimy child was in the middle of a war zone, but as luck would have it, I was witness to a new video spot.

It started with a hand trying to light a candle. As the camera pans to reveal the hand's owner, I had about 19 seconds of confusion as to who this guy was. It was the Philippines' comedy king - Dolphy. Then Ate Vi came on, then Charo Santos then it just got very very confusing. Why, in the bloody hell, would a semi unclad Piolo Pascual atop a mountain be considered patriotic? How is the image of Vhong Navarro with Toni Gonzaga relevant to evoke feelings of love for the country? I'm very confused.

Then it hit me. Filipino Patriotism is Wowowee on crack.

I like Nicholas Cage. I really like him. I liked him in Family Man, City of Angels, It could happen to you and even ConAir. But somehow, he was not Ghost Rider.

Maybe Eric Bana would be better. Or...Christian Bale.

Just not Nic.
