In honor of Friday the 13th

I've been asked more than once by the love of my life why I love villains. It's not that I love villains per se, it's just that villains are more suave, smooth and cosmopolitan, as opposed to the clunking- goody two shoes protagonists. There's that sense of mystery and sophistication to villains. With that said, here are my 5 favorite villains (in no particular order)

1. Lucius Malfoy - That aristocratic air about him makes everyone shiver. His powers and connections are infamous. Everyone knows he's a Death Eater but no one calls him out on it. Someone once said that true power is if your absence has the same effect as your presence.

2. Hannibal Lecter - He's very smart and educated, it's just that he likes to eat human flesh. Well, you can't always have it all, and every man has a flaw. In this case, it's cannibalism. But I can't help get goosebumps everytime I hear his voice say "Hello Clarisse..."

3. Maleficent from Sleeping beauty - The Costume! The Hairdress! The Henchmen! The Staff! The Tower! The Crow! How can you not love this villain? I love it when she crashes the party and says "I'm willing to overlook the misplaced invitation..." Wow... sarcasm, seething controlled anger and a display of classy power. What more can you ask for?

4. Ursula from the Little Mermaid - I still can sing "Poor unfortunate soul" with feelings up to this day. I Love her!!! She's scheming and almost got what she wanted. It's that Prince Eric that ruined everything.

5. Yzma from Emperor's New Groove - I love Eartha Kitt! I do! She's funny and evil. A perfect combination. Plus, you can't really be called evil when you have that kind of patience for a culinary-loving-missing-a-few-points-in-IQ sidekick. "Is that my voice? Is that MY voice? Oh well"

Happy Friday the 13th.

Avoid walking under ladders.
